Prepare for Cold and Flu Season Now! #SinexSavings

I can hardly believe that November is here! The holidays will be here before you know it, and with this busy time of the year also brings the dreaded cold and flu season. Are you prepared for when the cold and flu season hits? I personally like to be prepared before cold and flu season hits and to have my medicine cabinet and pantry stocked with those items that I know make my family and I comfortable for when we are sick.

Here are a few of my favorite tips to help prepare for cold and flu season:

  1. Stock up on supplies– make sure that you have enough items like tissues, disinfectant wipes, hand sanitizer, hand soap and paper towels on hand because you will need them! When you see them on sale, consider purchasing extra to have on hand in your stockpile just for cold and flu season. You will be so thankful for your extra supply when sickness hits! –
  2. Stock your pantry– be sure to have a well-stocked pantry with items like chicken noodle soup, teas, sports drinks, and even popsicles in the freezer to keep you hydrated for when the dreaded flu hits. I also like to keep some of my boys favorite treats stocked in the pantry for those times when sickness hits.
  3. Wash those hands– this is probably one of the most effective ways to prevent the flu. Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds scrubbing with soap and water. Throughout the day, you can also use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer to kill other germs that you come in contact with.
  4. Check your medicine cabinet– check your medicine cabinet now to see if you have enough items like fever reducers, pain relievers, a working thermometer, and other medications that your family uses to fight the cold and flu season. Be prepared and have those items well-stocked for when sickness unexpectedly hits.

Cleaning My New Home With Mean Green Cleaners! #MeanGreen

My family and I recently moved into a new home in August. I have found that if you spray the product on and let it set for a couple of minutes, the grime will literally wipe away! I also love the pleasant fragrance; it makes everything smell so fresh in a room that can be quite stinky!

The Kitchen– When we moved into our home, the kitchen was the room that needed the most help. Mean Green Super Strength Cleaner & Degreaser definitely lived up to its name. I was able to clean the oven, counters, sink and even floors all with this one product! The grease that had built up on the oven and stovetop was gone within just a few sprays and wipes! Once again, this product works best on grease if you spray it on then let it set for a few minutes. When you wipe it off, it will literally glide off. Cleaning has never been easier! I love how one product has many uses, yet is so powerful and effective! 

The Laundry Room– Mean Green Super Strength Cleaner & Degreaser can even be used to aid in soiled laundry and to pre-treat tough stains. You can even add add ¼ cup directly to your wash. As with any product, I would suggest that you test for colorfastness before use. How many cleaners and degreasers can you use as a pre-treater as well? This is one awesome product!

Swerve was so gracious to send me several bags of granular and confectioner’s sugar and I was excited to try one of the recipes from their website. There is something about this time of the year that has me loving all things lemon so I made the Lemon Butter Cakes. These cakes were so moist and sweet. You definitely would have no idea that there is no sugar in them if I had not told you! Everyone who tasted them told me how delicious that they were. They were a hit with everyone in my house so that was a win in my book!

Lemon Butter Cakes

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups almond flour
  • ¼ cup coconut flour
  • 1 tsp xanthan gum
  • 1 TBSP baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup Swerve, Granular
  • 4 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk or milk
  • 2 TBSP lemon zest (1 lemon)
  • 2 TBSP lemon juice (4 large lemons) or 2 tsp lemon extract
  • 6 drops of yellow food coloring to help give the cakes a stronger yellow coloring

Glaze:

  • ¼ cup of Swerve, Confectioners
  • 2 TBS of fresh lemon juice
  • ½ -1 teaspoon lemon zest

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Place cupcake liners in cupcake pan or excessively butter the entire cupcake pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the almond flour, coconut flour, baking powder, xanthan gum and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl on medium high to high speed, beat butter with Swerve until light and fluffy, about 5 minutes. Beat in eggs, food coloring, and vanilla extract until blended. On low speed, beat in half of the almond flour mixture. Beat in milk, and then the remaining almond flour mixture until combined. With a spatula, mix in lemon juice and lemon zest.
  4. Divide the batter evenly among the muffin pan, and shake the pan gently to ensure batter is evenly spread in each cup.
  5. Bake for 20-24 minutes until edges are browned, and toothpick insert

  6. In small bowl, combine lemon juice, Swerve Confectioners, and lemon zest. Mix together until well combined. Drizzle onto each cake.

These cakes are absolutely delicious! I added fresh blueberries when serving for even more freshness, but you could also serve with strawberries or even raspberries. Yum!

The restaurant is not only spacious, but also inviting and has lots of room to sit and enjoy your pie!

Pie Five Pizza is here to change the way that you think about pizza. Every pizza starts with fresh pizza dough that has been prepared in the morning, along with freshly hand-chopped garden veggies and their own marinara sauce. Every detail to the pizza-making process is definitely well-thought out and it shows in the quality of ingredients that they offer. And, true to it’s name, every pizza is done in 5 minutes! That is pizza perfection in my book!

Crust– Let’s start with the crust. Pie Five Pizza makes their dough fresh every morning. Choose between 4 scratch-made crusts including gluten-free options. My favorite crust option is the Cauliflower crust. This gluten-free crust option has delicious flavor while boasting half the carbs and sodium of a regular pizza crust. I absolutely love this crust and highly recommend it. You will think that you are eating a regular pizza crust. I promise, it is that good!

Toppings– One of the things that I love about Pie Five Pizza is the amount of toppings that they offer. The toppings are all fresh and the veggies are hand-chopped to perfection. Oh, and did I mention that you can choose unlimited toppings for one price? Whether you want 3 or 30 toppings, pile them on high!

Sauce– I love the sauce options that Pie Five Pizza offers. Choose from 7 different options including tuscan marinara, barbecue, alfredo, buffalo ranch and more. Want to mix and match the sauces on your pizza? No problem! That can be done too!

Cheese– We all know that a delicious pizza starts with the sauce and cheese. Pie Five Pizza uses only the best when it comes to their cheese. Their cheese is shredded right off the block and never frozen. This ensures for a fresher tasting pizza every time!

My son Brady and I recently stopped by our local Pie Five Pizza here in Clearwater to check out their pizzas. The manager Franz is so nice and helpful and really has a great knowledge about the menu options. In addition, he has a passion for his customers and the restaurant which definitely shows.

While I opted for the BBQ Chicken Pizza with Cauliflower Crust and the High Five Pizzas, Brady had the Cheese Pizza. All 3 of the pizzas were absolutely delicious. If you love a good BBQ Chicken Pizza, then you must try the Pie Five version. It is quite delightful and every bite is bursting with bbq sauce, cheddar cheese, chopped cilantro, red onions and grilled chicken. Absolute perfection! I had mine on the cauliflower pizza crust and it was exceptional! While the BBQ Chicken Pizza was more of a tangy pizza, the High Five Pizza was more meaty. If you love a pizza packed with meat, then this one is for you! It all begins with tuscan marinara, cheddar, pepperoni, italian sausage, bacon, Canadian bacon and beef. Yes, please! Brady loved his cheese pizza. Packed full of cheese in every bite, the cheddar and mozzarella were melted to perfection! 

Not only does Pie Five Pizza offer delicious hand crafted pizzas, but they also offer sandwiches, salads, wings, breadstix and desserts. Oh, did I mention dessert? The Ultimate Brownie and Chocolate Chip Pies are out of this world. Filled with ooey gooey ingredients, they definitely leave you wanting more!

Caprese Grilled Cheese and Turkey Sandwiches

Ingredients:

1 24 oz. loaf of Arnold Country Buttermilk Bread

1 8oz. tub of Hillshire Farm Naturals Turkey Breast Lunchmeat

Spreadable butter

Fresh basil leaves (add as much or as little as you prefer)

1 package of Mozzarella deli cheese slices

2-3 sliced tomatoes

Directions:

Preheat a griddle or non-stick skillet.

Butter the slices of bread. Add on the turkey, tomatoes, basil and cheese. You can pile the ingredients on however you prefer.

On a griddle or non-stick skillet, add the sandwiches and cook each side until golden brown and the cheese is melted through.

Serve and enjoy! Be careful. You will not be able to stop at just one sandwich! My husband told me 4 times how delicious that they were and he asked when I would be making them again!
