Summer is in full swing and many of us are planning where to go, what to do and how to keep the kids busy during these busy months. With that being said, it is also a great time to find bargains on many things.

I have discounts as much as 50% off.  Don’t forget to check warehouse clubs like Sam’s Club for swimwear deals. I recently purchased my son Drew a pair of Nautica swim trunks for $12.97 at our local Sam’s Club. While shopping, I also noticed adorable women’s 2 piece swim sets for under $30. I have also noted that many stores are offering promotional offers on lingerie right now so it may be a great time to replenish if you need to do so!

Father’s Day Sales– Since Father’s Day is just around the corner, you may be able to find some great deals on items for dad. Check stores like Harbor Freight, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Lowe’s and The Home Depot. I often find that there are great bargains on items like tools and sporting equipment around this time of the year as most stores are trying to market around dads. I would especially be on the lookout for gift card with purchase promotional offers. Don’t forget about restaurant deals. Many restaurants will offer discounts or even freebies for Father’s Day so don’t forget to ask.

Dishes– June seems to be a popular month for weddings and retailers are competing for your gift budget. Prices will be slashed on many dishes and dinnerware items, so if you need to replace items this is a great month to do so! I have seen some great deals including gift card with purchase options so be on the lookout at your favorite department stores!

Calling all Captain Marvel fans! The epic film centered on Carol Danvers a.k.a. Captain Marvel lands on DVD, Blu-ray & Blu-ray 4K Ultra HD on June 11! Did you and your family see this movie when it was in the theater? Here is a fun fact for you… this film not only electrified and inspired audiences worldwide, but surpassed $1 billion in ticket sales! Wow!

Here are a few thoughts of mine from reviewing the movie:

First of all, how could I not love the movie since it is a chick super hero? I live in a house full of boys so anything with a chick super hero is my jam! I really appreciate the film-makers focus on Carol Danvers super powers and the movie is filled with a female empowering storyline.

Set in the 1990s, “Captain Marvel” is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that introduces the MCU’s first stand-alone, female-franchise title character—Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel. When we first meet Danvers, she already possesses her superhero powers, having left her earthly life behind and become a member of an intergalactic elite Kree military team called Starforce, led by their enigmatic commander, Yon-Rogg. But after Danvers has trained and worked with the Starforce team, and become a valued member­, she finds herself back on Earth with new questions about her past. While on Earth she quickly lands on the radar of Ni

Is Captain Marvel right for kids?

While there is no nudity or sexual inappropriateness, there is some suggestive language. I would say that you as a parent should use your judgement here. There is of course, violence. The violence in this movie is not graphic. It is more action and sci-fi fighting with laser type of guns. Captain Marvel is rated PG-13 for “sequences of sci-fi violence and action, and brief suggestive language.

Honestly, I think that the overall storyline of this movie is a very positive one especially for children in today’s society. It portrays not only positivity and perseverance, but integrity and confidence. These are all values that we as parents are trying to instill in our children on a daily basis.

Cowboy Caviar – The Perfect Appetizer for Any Occasion!

If you need a fun, yet delicious recipe for all of your summer barbecues, Cowboy Caviar is going to be your new favorite appetizer! This delicious “salad” is comprised of some of my favorite items and is full of freshness in every bite! There are many variations of how Cowboy Caviar can be made, but this recipe is my version. Feel free to add some heat with a jalapeño, or you can omit the avocados. It really is super versatile and can be made to your liking! I am calling this an appetizer, but really you could add this on top of grilled chicken or pork and it would be the perfect compliment as well — The possibilities are endless!

INGREDIENTS:

4 roma tomatoes, diced

1/2  yellow pepper, halved and diced

1/2 red pepper, halved and diced

1/2 red onion diced

2 avocados, diced

1 bunch of fresh cilantro, finely chopped

1 15oz. can pinto beans, drained an

1 can sweet corn drained

o make a sweet and savory dressing to immerse the Cowboy Caviar with. When you add this to this mix of veggies and beans, it sets the delicious factor over the top!

DRESSING:

2 Tablespoons red wine vinegar

1 Tablespoon lime juice

1/3 cup olive oil

1/3 cup sugar

1 Teaspoon onion powder

1 Teaspoon oregano

Salt/Pepper for taste

INSTRUCTI

ONS:

In a large bowl, combine all of the salad ingredients together except for the avocados. (corn, tomatoes, beans, cilantro, bell peppers, and red onion). 

In a smaller bowl, whisk together ingredients for dressing and pour over the salad mixture.

Refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving so that the flavors can combine together.
