Easy Sesame Chicken

Are you looking for a yummy chicken dish that tastes just like your favorite takeout? Easy Sesame Chicken is absolutely delicious! Not only will you save money by making your own takeout, but this dish is very easy to prepare as well! My guys devoured this dish and there were no leftovers!

(recipe adapted from Budget Bytes)

INGREDIENTS:

Chicken:

1 large egg

2 Tbsp cornstarch

Salt & pepper to taste

1 lb. boneless skinless chicken thighs

2 Tbsp veg. oil for frying the chicken

Sauce:

4 Tbsp soy sauce

2 Tbsp water

1 Tbsp toasted sesame oil

3 Tbsp brown sugar

3 Tbsp rice wine vinegar

2 inch fresh ginger, grated

2-3 cloves minced garlic

2 Tbsp sesame seeds

1 Tbsp cornstarch

For Serving:

Chopped green onions for garnish

Hot jasmine rice to serve the chicken on top of

Extra sesame seeds

DIRECTIONS:

In a large bowl, whisk together the egg, 2 Tbsp cornstarch, salt and pepper. Cut chicken thighs into 1 inch pieces. Toss the chicken in the egg and cornstarch mixture.

Heat a large skillet or wok with 2 Tbsp of vegetable oil over medium-high heat. When the oil is very hot, add the chicken and all of the egg mixture. Cook the chicken, stirring only occasionally, until it is golden brown and cooked through (about 7-10 minutes).

While chicken is cooking, prepare the sauce. In a small bowl stir together the soy sauce, water, sesame oil, brown sugar, rice vinegar, fresh ginger, minced garlic, cornstarch, and sesame seeds.

After chicken is cooked through and golden brown, pour the sauce over top. Toss the chicken to coat in the sauce. The sauce should begin to thicken as soon as it hits the hot skillet. Once the chicken is coated and the sauce thickened, turn off the heat.

Serve over hot jasmine rice and sprinkle with chopped green onions and additional sesame seeds if you prefer.

Enjoy!

Sharing Is Caring: The New Way To Save Money

As you are probably well aware by now, we love trying to save money as best we can. We get a bit of a kick out of being frugal. But it isn’t just about looking at ways to make the big financial decisions cheaper, it is also getting the best deals that make us smile. But while we pride ourselves on finding the best money saving tips and tricks, sometimes our best deals actually comes through our friends and family. It is this idea that sharing is caring because that we all pay less but get more in return.

Below we have come up with some top tips and tricks to help you get the most out of this new sharing phenomenon, and by the most, we mean to save the most.

Loyalties & Cashback

Loyalty cards are all too often not worth the hassle. They demand so much patience and so much loyalty and they hardly give much back in return. If you’ve ever had a loyalty card then you will know this. However, as moneysavingexpert.com will support, there are ways to earn points even quicker and one of them is to give a family member your supplementary card. By letting your spouse, or sibling or parent shop with a club card that is linked to your account you can quickly rack up some points and make savings. When it comes to sharing these points, a great way to do it is to save them until a big event, such as Christmas or Thanksgiving and then pay for all the food with them. Just make sure you trust their spending habits.

Expand Your World

We were tempted to reserve this strictly for travel, but all too often we explore the world through books as well; there is just no better way to expand the mind. So, tackling this first, why not sign up to a book sharing site, of which more and more are taking off. If you want recommendations then go with Paper Back Swap | stay-a-stay-at-home-mom.com which is free to join. As for actual expanding your world through travel, if you travel a lot with work or know someone that does, why not share out your air miles or offer to buy some off a friend for below the market value. That way you can see the world for less, and what is better than that.

Television & Music

Almost all streaming services these days – both TV and music – let you have more than one person, device or screen registered to an account. Yes, this is technically against the rules, but we have not heard of anyone their access denied because of it. Netflix, NowTV, Amazon Prime, Spotify; they all have multiple access. You just need to decide whether you are going to split the cost of one or go with two for the price of one. Let’s say you just want Netflix, in that case, you could spend as little as $3 a month on unlimited films and TV. Or you could pay for Netflix and your brother could pay for Spotify and then you have access to the best of both for half the price. Once again, just make sure you trust whoever you’re partnering up and shar
