How to Dig Your Family Out of Debt – The Easy Way

(All posts may contain affiliate links. Please see my disclosure policy)

In these tough economic times, it can be difficult not to get into debt. Wages aren’t rising at the same rate as bills are, so staying in the black can seem almost impossible. If you do get into debt, then you’re not the only one. A third of all American families are struggling with debt, according to USA Today. So, how do you get your family out of the red and back into the black? This easy guide will help you get there.

Work out what you owe

The first thing you’re going to need to do is write up a list of your outstanding bills. Whether it is rent or mortgage payments, credit card debts or utilities. By putting everything down on paper, you’ll be able to see exactly how much you owe and to who. This step will also make it easier when we come to prioritizing, a little bit later on. Go through any unopened mail, bank statements and bills to find out exactly how much you need to pay back.

Prioritize your debts

Now you have everything written down; the next step is to work out which debts are the most important to pay back. Here’s an example of the most common debts and what their priority should be:

  • Rent or mortgage payments – To keep a roof over your family’s heads

  • Taxes – The state can imprison you if you don’t pay them; property tax is one of the most common

  • Utility bills – Keep the electrics on and the water running

  • Insurances – Especially medical insurance

  • Loans and credit card bills – Still a high priority, but not at the top of the list

  • Any other bills – If you have any other outstanding bills they should come fairly low on the list

  • Friends and family members – If you’re struggling to pay back loans from peers then they’re the least important on your list

Paying the debts off

You should now have a pretty good idea of how much you owe, to whom, and when they need to be paid back. The best thing to do would be to call every single one of the companies you owe money to and explain your situation. They may want you to fill out an income and expenses form, to prove that you really are struggling to pay things back. Here are some of the best ways to pay off some of the most common debts:

  • Rent or mortgage payments – These are your most important debts to clear first. Whatever money you have coming in will need to go toward keeping that roof over your head.

  • Taxes – Property tax should be your next biggest priority. You can look into tax loans that will help buy you some more time. Alternatively, if you have some spare cash, then it should go toward taxes.

  • Bills and Insurances – Ring up the companies you owe money to and ask if you can be put on a payment plan. Let them know how much you can afford each month and start paying it back a little bit at a time. Use any method you can think of to make some spare cash and pay them off.

Digging your head into the sand won’t work when it comes to debt – it will just make things worse. Follow this handy guide and you’ll be back in the black before you know it.

Is Buying Presents Costing a Fortune? Here’s How To Save Some Cash!

(All posts may contain affiliate links. Please see my disclosure policy)

We all like giving gifts. We like seeing the looks of joy on our friends and families faces. We love making them happy. There is also the extra benefit that it means we will receive more presents when a special occasion comes around. But you know where this is leading. Buying presents is costing us all a fortune. Think about how much you spend on buying presents every year. If you are like me, it could easily jump over a thousand pounds. There was a news story not too long ago about a mum who had received a letter from a parent at her daughter’s school. The letter was suggesting each classmate should give her child ten pounds for her birthday as a gift. If there are thirty children in the class, that child would have made £300 pound from her classmates in birthday money, alone. Kerching! So, some people are just taking it too far. But what is the solution? We certainly do not want to stop buying gifts for our friends and family. But there are some ways you can save money when buying a loved one their next present.

Check For Deals –This check will be particularly important in the build up to big holidays like Christmas. Sites like Hot UK Deals are run by users. When someone finds a hot deal they post it online and depending on how much interest there is, it receives a rating. It will also tell you when the deal has expired. If you are lucky, you will also find that people have posted codes for ten and twenty percent off sites like Zavvi and Tesco.

This has certainly come in handy when having a teenage son. Games are commonly posted, telling you where the best place to buy the latest title is.

Another important check during the build up to Christmas is black Friday deals. We are not suggesting you consider venturing out into the stores on the week of Black Friday.  But you will find great deals online. Amazon offers five days of fantastic deals, and we are sure you will find a gift for each and every family member. Last Year the XBox One was slashed in price by fifty percent during Black Friday. But again, do not even think about going shopping on the streets on Black Friday. Trust us, it is not worth it.

Flubit – Heard of Flubit? Well, we have and it is well investigating. Flubit is a site you can sign up for. It works like this. You post the link of an item you want to buy from a site like Amazon. Flubit will then search all available prices of that item across the internet. It will then offer you a discounted price. The service is totally free but you will have to wait to be invited to use the service once you sign up. The site has become very popular and this is the way they deal with the excess demand. This is an idea of the kind of deal you will receive. We input a £15 Blu-Ray, and two days later received an offer of £8. Every little helps.

Research Prices – Of course, there is nothing stopping you doing research. We frequently compare prices between websites like Zavvi and Amazon. For new film titles, Zavvi is constantly more expensive however for older films it certainly comes out on top. If you use Google shop, you can type in an Item, and it will give you every website that is selling it with the price. We have found this is a fantastic way to find the cheapest deal if you have not yet received your invitation to use Flubit.

Something Simple – Chocolates and Flowers are underrated. There are plenty of reasons that you should buy a loved one a bouquet of flowers. You can show you do listen. You know their favourite type of flower. Yes, they will not last forever but that is not the point. Flowers have a certain traditional romance about them. Also, any girl will tell you they would love their boyfriend to give them a single, red rose.

Chocolates have a similar quality. We do recommend you make sure the person is not dieting. But surprising them with their favourite brand is a wonderful gesture of love. There is a reason Galaxy and Cadburys commonly use the notion of romance in their ads. It works. It sells.

Something handmade – Father’s day is coming up. Do you want to spend a fortune on Father’s Day gifts? You could save money and instead just spend some time. Make your day something special this year. Are you good with your hands? Then how about a nice hand carved, engraved tool for his tool kit. Do you have that creative flair? Then why not try writing him a poem. You can get it laminated or buy a frame. Show your dad how much you really care. Handmade presents get a lot of mockery in the media. But that is because the media want you to spend a fortune on gifts every year. Just look at how much advertising starts up in October.  Last year Christmas advertising even started in August.

A gift voucher – Not sure what to get someone? It may seem lazy, but a gift card or a voucher is the perfect idea. The price is fixed and affordable and the person gets to choose what they buy. You can also get that more personal touch. If you know someone loves films, a card that gives them one free year at the movies is a  fantastic present. Also, it is not like giving someone cash. You can still wrap it up and make a big deal out of it. Be creative.

We hope at least one of these ideas has inspired you to do something different this year. Stop wasting a fortune on presents you are not even sure people will like. Instead, you can save money and still show people just how much they mean to you.

How To Save Money on Important Life Events

(All posts may contain affiliate links. Please see my disclosure policy)

There are some things in life that are supposed to cost money. Think about going to college, getting married, and buying a house. Then there’s raising your kids. And, finally, your retirement. Now, while the cost of all these life events will be high, there are some smart ways that you can save a little money on them. Let’s take a look at what you can do.

College – Your college education is vital to your future success. But, unfortunately, it costs a lot. Tuition fees and student loans aren’t the best way to get a start in life, so is there any way of saving? There sure is! The typical college degree lasts for four-year, but many of our universities are now running courses that you can cram four years into three. The result? Several thousand pounds saved in fees, loans and living costs.

Marriage – OK, so this one might not be the most romantic idea, but if you want to save tens of thousands of pounds, it might be more than worthwhile. Instead of investing your entire savings on your big day, why not get sponsored? A sponsored wedding is an increasingly popular way to save big bucks. All it takes is the support of a few businesses willing to advertise on your big day, and you will slash those costs in half.

Buying A Home – Buying a new home is an incredibly expensive business. But you can save mega bucks by building your own house. All you need is a little bit of land and a good plan. Not only will you be able to live in your dream home, but you will also get it for a much cheaper price than you would have had you simply bought it.

Raising Your Children – It is thought that raising your kids can cost anything up to a quarter of million dollars by the time they are eighteen. That’s an incredible amount of money by any standards. Now, there is no one surefire way to cut down on those costs, but it can be done. First of all, take a look around on my blog – there are hundreds of coupon tips and money saving tidbits that you can make use of. Next, think about reducing the amount of childcare you spend on. Perhaps you could work from home, instead, or maybe get help from your parents. Even saving one day a week on childcare can save you a couple of thousand dollars every year.

Retirement– Investing your money in stocks, bonds or commodities can help you plan better for your retirement. A lot of people think that it is only wealthy people that can invest their money, but that is not the case. Take gold trading, for example. All it takes is to sign up for an account with a service like ACM Gold & Forex Trading, and you can start buying and selling with ease. In fact, gold is an excellent option for anyone looking for long-term protection and a sound investment for their later years. Just be careful that you only spend what you can afford.

I hope that this has helped you see that although life is expensive, there are ways to make it easier for you. Got other tips you could share? It would be great to hear from you!

Review of Tin Drum AsiaCafe

Disclosure: I was provided with services at Tin Drum AsianCafe in exchange for this review. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Please see my disclosure policy)

I had the opportunity earlier this week to take my family and check out the new Tin Drum AsiaCafe in Tampa, FL. Tin Drum AsiaCafe originated in Atlanta, GA, but they are opening new stores here in the Tampa Bay area of Florida. In fact, they have plans to open many stores in the near future.

What is Tin Drum AsiaCafe? Tin Drum AsiaCafe is not your typical Asian Restaurant. Their dynamic menu mixes Asian flare with bold flavors. They are unique in that they offer dishes from Thailand, Pakistan, Japan, India China, Singapore, and Vietnam all on one menu lineup! They also offer Gluten Free and Vegetarian items which is a huge plus!

The decor inside of the Tin Drum AsiaCafe is done to perfection. There are colorful balloons hanging from the ceiling and an Asian flare is present throughout the entire store with the wall hangings and color artwork.

My son Drew and I had the Sweet and Sour Chicken Stir-Fry. It was to die for! Everything about the dish is so fresh! The pineapples, green peppers and onions burst in my mouth with delicious flavor. The chicken in the dish is quite tasty as well. They marinate the chicken in Lemongrass to give it a unique yet delicious flavor. It is then coated with a crispy breading and cooked to perfection!

My son Brady and my Mom had the Teriyaki Chicken Stir-Fry. They really liked this dish as well. I took a bit of Brady’s to taste test it and it was yummy! The Chicken Teriyaki Stir-Fry has fresh mushrooms, cabbage, onions, scallions, carrots and a sweet soy glaze all served over a bed of white steamed rice.

Brady is a Chopstick Master!

I can’t begin to tell you how delicious that these dishes taste. Each dish is made fresh and brought right to your table steaming hot!  Tin Drum AsiaCafe really cares about their customers and they will even customize your dishes for you if you prefer. For example, if you are watching your carb intake you can get your dish over Sauteed Spinach instead of rice. Just ask them and they are more than willing to accomodate your menu preference.

One of the best-selling menu items at Tin Drum AsiaCafe is their Crab N Cheese Spring Rolls. All I can say is that these are little gems of yumminess! You won’t be able to eat just one! These spring rolls are filled with a Crab and a Green Onion Cheese Mixture that is out of this world! It is served with a Sweet N Sour Dip that is sure to knock your socks off!

I especially love how Tin Drum AsiaCafe has a huge focus on helping the needy in the Tampa Bay area. In fact,Tin Drum Asiacafé is promoting sales of its signature chocolate-dipped fortune cookies to benefit Eckerd’s Friends of the Children, a revolutionary program in Tampa Bay that pairs foster children with full-time, salaried, trained mentors through high school graduation.

Make sure that you stay in-the-know of all the latest offers and promotions that Tin Drum Asiacafe offers. You can follow them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram

One of my favorite promotions that Tin Drum AsiaCafe offers is on Saturday and Sunday. Get a FREE Kids Meal with the purchase of an adult entree. Pack up the family and head out to Tin Drum AsiaCafe for a yummy lunch or dinner!

The Tampa Tin Drum AsiaCafe location is at 3689 Tampa Rd, Ste 305, Tampa Fl. 34677.
