Publix 101-Understanding How to Shop at Publix

I have finally gotten around to putting together a Publix 101 post! 🙂

-Shop the BOGO sales at Publix! This is what Publix is known for and shopping the BOGO sales with coupons will get you the most bang for your buck!

If you live in FL, we have what is called a True BOGO. Our Publix sale starts on Thursday. The first BOGO item will ring up full price and the second item will ring up for FREE.

Example:  Soda is on sale BOGO @ $1.99 each. The first one will ring up as $1.99, while the second item rings up as $0. In FL, you must buy 2 items to receive the BOGO deal,

If you live in other states where there are Publix stores, some stores sales start on Wednesday and each BOGO items rings up half price.

Example: Soda is BOGO @ $1.99 each. Each item will ring up at $0.99 each, or half price.

-Publix allows you to stack coupons. This is the greatest way to save money at Publix! Publix puts out a Green Advantage and Yellow Advantage flier each month. These fliers are filled with wonderful store coupons that you can stack with your manuf. Coupons to really maximize your savings! You can typically find these fliers in the turnstile with the weekly Publix ad.

The rule of thumb with stacking coupons is:  you can use one store or competitor’s coupon and one manufacturer’s coupon per one or each item.

Publix accepts competitor’s coupons. Publix will accept competitor’s coupons from many different stores including :  Albertsons, Sweetbay, Winn-Dixie, Food Lion, and Target. Now, as with any competitor’s coupons, I find that it is always best to stop by the Customer Service Desk to make sure that they will accept your coupons as a competitor. It is always best to ask than to find out that you can’t use the coupon when you are checking out. Generally speaking, if it is a grocery store in your area, most Publix stores will accept their coupons…..just be sure to check!

-Does Publix double coupons? If you live in FL, the answer is no, unfortunately. All other states should double coupons up to $0.50.

-Using $/$$ coupons at Publix. These are the $5/30 coupons, $10/50 coupons, and etc… that we receive many times in the mail. I find that these coupons really help to cut your grocery bill even more on top of the coupons that you are already using. You should be able to use these coupons before all other coupons have been applied¸ so be sure to hand over your $/$$ coupons first.

-Where do I find Publix coupons? There are lots of great places to find Publix coupons!  Don’t forget to pick up your monthly Green and Yellow Advantage Fliers located in the turnstile with the weekly ad.

You can also sign up for the following FREE Publix magazines to be mailed to your house. These will include Publix coupons:

*Family Style Magazine

*Grape Magazine

*GreenWise Market Magazine

Publix also offer several clubs that I highly recommend signing up for:

The Baby Club-you need to sign up for this one if you have little ones or are expecting! When Drew was little, they would send out coupons for FREE items quite frequently. And, the coupons that they send in the Baby Club are often Publix coupons, so you can stack them with manuf. Coupons for really sweet deals!

The Preschool Pals Club– this is for your Preschooler. They will send out money-saving coupons and little gifts to your toddler.

The Pet Club-this is the newest club that Publix offers. They provide money-saving coupons for those of you who are animal lovers!

-Rainchecks-Publix will issue a rain check for an item if they are out of stock of that particular item. Publix rain checks are valid for 30 days from the day that they are issued.

-You cannot have more coupons than items in your shopping cart. When this happens, the register will beep and state that you have exceeded the coupon limit. The manager can override this or, I find it best to have a few filler items to cover this. A bulb of garlic, package of Ramen noodles, tomato, etc… in my opinion, this really avoids a headache in the long run!

-Publix will accept manufacturer’s internet printable coupons. Most stores, however, will not accept printable coupons for FREE items or if the printable coupon amount is over $5. Ask at the CS desk to make sure.

-Don’t forget about the Publix Promise! If an item rings up at a different price from what is on the shelf, you will get that item for FREE. If you have multiple of the same item, the first one will be free and they will adjust the price of the other items down to the correct price.
