Summer is a surprisingly difficult time for clothes shopping. Hundreds of people flock to the high street stores, and by the time you manage to get down there all the good clothes in your size are all gone. Not to mention that most of the summer fashions are a little too expensive to justify buying a new wardrobe every year, but you usually need new shorts because your old ones no longer fit. Remember when shopping was fun, not stressful? With the following tips, it can be again.
Wait for discounts
While it’s true that most of the good clothes will be gone pretty early on, interest will fade towards the end of the summer when they have restocked the shelves again. There will be plenty of summer sales and discounts thrown in throughout the season to keep customers interested, so there’s always a chance you’ll find something you like at a reduced price.
Shop online
Welcome to the 21st century where everything you could ever want can be delivered right to your door step. Online shopping can be a bit of a gamble in regards to clothes sizes, but once you get comfortable sending back items that don’t fit, you can browse sites like Ruby Rd clothes, BooHoo.com, or Mango to your heart’s content. Return policies and size guides are usually featured on the websites so you can make absolutely sure that the size you buy will fit you.
Thrift shopping
What some call ‘old,’ others call ‘retro.’ You won’t find a better selection of classy, vintage, or comfortable clothing anywhere else. If you want something of a higher quality, go to shops in upscale neighborhoods and get something stunning for a fraction of its high street cost. You might have to visit several stores before you find your perfect treasure, but it’s all worth it when you have bags full of new clothes at the end of the day, but you have spent half of your designated budget.
Accessorize
Despite all your searching around the stores you couldn’t quite find one perfect outfit. Instead, buy some accessories to make your basic outfits stand out a little more. Put on a plain shirt and jeans and experiment with your accessories. With the right combination of shoes, bag and belt, or jewelry, even the most simple outfit can be transformed into a fashion statement.
Clothes Swap
Of course, why spend money at all if you have friends who are about the same dress size as you. Chances are you’re not the only one who can’t afford to spend money on new clothes this season, so the best solution is to get a group of friends together and organise a clothes swap. Perhaps there’s a shirt or dress of theirs that you’ve always admired that they don’t want anymore. Maybe you have something that no longer fits you that would suit them perfectly. The more friends you invite, the more options you’ll have. It’s also a fun way to spend a day together.
